WHO WE ARE

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization founded in 1920. We are a grassroots organization, working nationally, state-wide and locally, directed by the consensus of members nationwide. We encourage informed and active participation in government, work to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.

There are Leagues in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Hong Kong, with hundreds of local Leagues nationwide.

WHAT WE DO
  • Voters Service / Citizen Education: We register voters and provide voting information. We provide speakers on election issues. We sponsor Candidate Forums and Issue Forums.
  • Good Government: Our Observer Corps monitors governmental bodies for transparency and accountability. We track issues of importance to the League and the community.
  • Information: We publish TRY, a directory of elected officials for our community. We provide our members with the local VOTER (newsletter) and study publications. Local members receive newsletters from the state and national level.
  • Local Committees: Education, Healthcare, Sustainability and Water.
  • Local Action: We take action based on League positions, including Natural Resources, Representative Government, International Relations and Social Policy.
